In this address at Liberia College in 1881, Blyden, then president of the college, discusses liberal education for Africans. In his speech Blyden lays out an educational program for the instruction of students at the college and for African youth throughout the continent. Born in St. Thomas, Virgin Islands; Blyden spent most of his life in Africa and was an educator, linguist, writer and world traveler and inspired generations of African Disapora champions including Garvey, Du Bois, and Nkrumah. 1882, 2005. 32 pp.
