Welcome to BLACK CLASSIC BOOKS.
Dear Reader,
Please indulge me as I share a very special moment for all of us at Black Classic Press.
We are excited and honored to share that Ta-Nehisi Coates, son of BCP founder Paul Coates, has released his first book, The Beautiful Struggle: A father, two sons, and an unlikely road to manhood, with overwhelming critical and individual acclaim.
But don't look for The Beautiful Struggle in the BCP listings. It is published by Spiegel and Grau, a Random House imprint. Although Ta-Nehisi wanted BCP to publish the book, he was advised by Paul to seek publication with a mainstream press; someone who could pay him the royalty advance he deserved, and better fit the genre of his book for better marketing.
The Beautiful Struggle is described as an exceptional father-son story about the reality that tests us, the myths that sustain us, and the love that saves us. It is also an incredible story about raising Black boys into men.
His memoir even landed him the cover story of the Baltimore City Paper.
Ta-Nehisi is no new-comer to professional writing; he has worked with The New York Times Magazine, The Atlantic, The Village Voice and Time magazine. He also maintains his popular blog: ta-nehisi.com.
